Amendment Would Enable States to Repeal Federal Law

By Kate Zernike
THE NEW YORK TIMES

The same people driving the lawsuits that seek to dismantle the Obama administration’s health care overhaul have set their sights on an even bigger target: a constitutional amendment that would allow a vote of the states to overturn any act of Congress.

Under the proposed “repeal amendment,” any federal law or regulation could be repealed if the legislatures of two-thirds of the states voted to do so.

The idea has been propelled by the wave of Republican victories in the midterm elections. First promoted by Virginia lawmakers and Tea Party groups, it has the support of legislative leaders in 12 states. It also won the backing of the incoming House majority leader, Representative Eric Cantor, when it was introduced this month in Congress.

The Communist Manifesto Read Allowed

I was thinking of doing this myself, but of course it’s already been done on YouTube. It’s well read in a nice British accent and recommended to be playing in the background during working hours. Marx (and Engels) was a great writer and most of the ideas are still fresh today.

The paper references this website http://cascade.wr.usgs.gov/data/Task2b-SFBay/ which uses Google Earth to illustrate possible sea level rises due to global warming. The above links to the San Francisco Bay Area, but the whole world is viewable.

SOLUTIONS: The End Of Capitalism

A Companion to CAPITALISM IS OVER!:

The End Of Capitalism

This is a website dedicated to those who see injustice in the world and cannot ignore it, for those who know suffering and must commit themselves to pull its roots from the ground, for those who work towards a new world, every single day.

The purpose is to explore and develop the End of Capitalism Theory, which states that the global capitalist system is breaking down due to ecological and social limits to growth and that a paradigm shift toward a non-capitalist future is underway. The future could be worse or better, but it will be what we make. Those of us who share common values of freedom, democracy, justice, sustainability and love must become active and organize against fear and oppression.

Alex Knight has edited endofcapitalism.com since 2007. He is working on a book titled “The End of Capitalism” and seeks a publisher. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Political Science, both from Lehigh University. He lives in Philadelphia, where he is a teacher and organizer. Banning Big Wall Street Bonuses Favored By 70 Percent of Americans in National Poll

By Catherine Dodge
BLOOMBERG

More than 70 percent of Americans say big bonuses should be banned this year at Wall Street firms that took taxpayer bailouts, a Bloomberg National Poll shows.

An additional one in six favors slapping a 50 percent tax on bonuses exceeding $400,000. Just 7 percent of U.S. adults say bonuses are an appropriate incentive reflecting Wall Street’s return to financial health.

A large majority also want to tax Wall Street profits to reduce the federal budget deficit. A levy on financial services firms is the top choice among more than a dozen deficit-cutting options presented to respondents.
