On July 23, 2010 Francesca Pastine spent 5 hours (3pm – 8pm) set up at a table in front of the San Francisco Shopping Center on Market Street covering the New York Times with graphite pencils. While working, Pastine engaged with passersby about the nature of censorship and the meaning of information.
Francesca Pastine is an artist whose work has been shown widely throughout the United States and abroad. Her recent work manipulates icons of cultural production (such as the New York Times and Art Forum magazines) in order to conflate broad global and public narratives with the lived experience.
